- frontporsche, on 01/20/2008, -0/+1I love the n810 too, but though the 810 and the eee are pretty similar, they have different markets I think.
  
  The big difference is that with the Eee you can comfortably work on your blog while on the go. Doing a lot of typing on the n810 means you have to bring a real keyboard around with you. ...and now that you have a keyboard between you and the n810, you're squinting at the 4.3 inch screen.
  
  On the n810's side, the huge difference is that it's a shirt-pocket device.
  
  Otherwise they stack up about the same. the n810 has bluetooth and gps and longer battery life and touch screen. the Eee has more memory and a faster CPU and ethernet and video out and provides more power to USB devices.
  - Viroz, on 01/20/2008, -0/+1I heard the eee pc's keyboard is pretty hard to type on too...
    - frontporsche, on 01/20/2008, -0/+1I tried one at the store for about 10 minutes. My impression was that it was the smallest possible keyboard that still allowed me to touch type. It was a little awkward, but I felt like I would get used to it after a couple days of practice.
      
      Actually, I'm growing to like the n810 keyboard too. It's not bad ... for a thumb board ... for the occasional IM or url entry.

That is pretty thoughtful, using the USB Hub and just stripping down components to their main boards.
In my opinion, wires and the extra components are laid out pretty well.

Buried as he doesn't have the touchscreen, which to be honest, was one of the cooler mods that I've seen. And clearly, people don't have a clue what the difference between hacking and modding is.

wouldn't this be illegal though if this was done in the u.s? i mean, the computer is fcc approved, but if you start jamming things in there, especially with long wires, it could transmit a whole bunch of unwanted signals and that could get you in trouble with the fcc. For example, if someone did a hardware mod and the computer started sending out a frequency that is used by airplanes to send an emergency signal, you would get in alot of trouble.

The Eee is fun, hackable, and VERY upgradeable. The future is Eee - a laptop for ordinary people. It is really OLPC for the Western world - affordable and functional. The rich will always have a Mac I guess, but truck drivers and Walmart greeters will have an Eee - and the Eee will do everything they want.

Nowadays linux drivers are available for almost all hardwares. Only thing required is courage from users to install linux and start using it in every day business or entertainment activities. Initially it look slightly odd on the eyes, since we got used to windows for more than a decade, it will be alright before switching to Vista.
